Welcome to Airfix Model World (AMW). We hope you will be pleasantly surprised by the contents, not just in terms of actual builds, but also the high-quality photography (all by contributors) and explanatory text. Both have been trademarks of this magazine since its inception, with the former crucial to creating an easily understandable article – after all, model-making is a visual hobby, so we have always strived to show readers just how the end result is achieved.
Airfix Model World Magazine Features
While we feature Airfix products in every issue, we also cover those from other major manufacturers, such as Eduard, Hasegawa, Revell, Special Hobby, IBG Models, Italeri, Tamiya and Kinetic, as well as those from limited-run and ‘cottage industry’ firms. It means we cover every genre of the hobby, from figures and aircraft to armour, maritime and sci-fi/real space, with the aim of providing the broadest selection of content.
Furthermore, AMW has strived to include informative history/background articles with certain build features, often providing a different take on an otherwise familiar topic. These are written by renowned historians or people involved intimately with a subject. If you are seeking something more in-depth, then we occasionally publish special supplements, dedicated sections or bookazines, which focus on either a theme or a newly-tooled kit, along with valuable reference material on the real subject where feasible. No other monthly scale modelling magazine offers this much variety and quality.

AMERICA'S RYANAIR
Imitating the Irish airline Ryanair’s business model, American low-cost operator Skybus was a short-lived private carrier that operated 13 Airbus A319s between May 22, 2007 and April 4, 2008 – one of these aircraft is the subject of Decales Global’s markings.
DAZZLING DARTS
Modellers with either Trumpeter’s splendid 1/48 kit or conversion sets for their Monogram/Revell Delta Darts will find much to savour with Iliad’s selection of two-seat F-106B Delta Darts.
ASIAN ARMOUR
Here’s a useful, if somewhat eclectic, set of 1/35 markings for military modellers, in the form of Lebanese Armed Forces unit markings.
COLOURFUL PUCARÁS
The arrival of Kinetic’s 1/48 Pucará has produced a flurry of aftermarket goodies, with this set of markings from Two Bobs arguably being one of the highlights.
SMALL SCALE, BIG HIT
Massimo Santarossa has heaps of fun with his build of Airfix's new-tool 1/72 Sherman Firefly Vc tank. Here he adds scratch-built applique and sandbag armour, and even shows how to make rope look more realistic. It involves cold tea!
COLOURFUL CHARACTERS
Until 2018, Russia’s Air Force was separate from the country’s Air and Space Defence Force – upon their conjoining, a new style of Bort Number, registration and airframe serial font was established.
TRAINERS AND VIPS
Modellers wanting different schemes for their Airfix 1/72 Dominie T.1s may want to consider this collection of six airframe options, of which five are for that type (four wearing the classic red/white/grey livery), while the sixth is for an HS.125 Series 400/CC.1 airframe.
SPECIAL DELTA
The Belgian Air Force is one of several European air arms that regularly clads its aircraft in anniversary schemes, so the retirement of the Mirage 5 from service in 1993 was never going to be passed up.
TURNING POINT ARMOUR
This is ToRo Model’s first selection of British Sherman tanks as used during the Second Battle of El Alamein, which was arguably the point on which World War Two’s Desert Campaign swung toward Allied success.
CLICK-FIT KOMBI
Having catered for the first-generation Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus in 1/24, Revell has now produced a newly tooled replica of the second (known as T2), which is also an ‘easy-click’ offering that can be constructed with little or no cement.
