Czech firm Eduard has pleased many a Mustang fan by issuing a new-tool 1/48 P-51B – debuting in a limited two-kit ‘Overlord’ boxing, as CHRIS CLIFFORD discovers.
It may not have been surprising when Eduard announced a new 1/48 tooling of the P-51B Mustang. The company has already released many different boxings of its excellent same-scale P-51D, first issued five years ago. For many Mustang devotees, though, the high-back P-51B is a more interesting proposition, with its chunkier shape and other varied airframe nuances.
What is clear is that its new P-51B offers even more refinement and detail, appears accurate in shape and provides alternative fittings. These include different instrument panel coamings, running lights, seat/harness formats, instrument panels and other items. Pleasingly, this Overlord boxing (11181) also supplies photo-etched (PE) metal details to boost the already impressive styrene parts. One bonus is that you can portray airframes with the standard framed canopy and blown ‘Malcolm’ hood. Either can be posed open or closed, for extra versatility.
