REVEALED: Exclusive Class 66 66794 in Petroleum livery

Key Publishing's next limited edition model for 'OO' gauge is Class 66 66794 Steve Hannam which is being produced by Accurascale - the announcement comes alongside the GBRf Gala Weekend at the Nene Valley Railway on September 7 2024.

This new addition to the Class 66 range is available to pre-order today and models the GB Railfreight operated locomotive in its current Railfreight triple grey colour scheme with Petroleum sector branding.

The real 66794 was built in 2003 and entered service in the Netherlands with ERS Railways. It was originally owned by HSBC Rail and in 2009 was bought by Beacon Rail after which it was hired to Heavy Haul Power International based in Erfurt, Germany. Eleven years later it was transferred to Crossrail Benelux during 2020.

In 2020 the locomotive arrived in the UK at Immingham Docks to expand the GBRf Class 66 fleet. It was fully overhauled and prepared to British railway specification including changing of the light clusters and in cab equipment. However, the locomotive retained its distinctive rectangular buffers, buffer beam pipes and extended horn box which give the former Mainland Europe Class 66s a distinctive appearance.

On release to traffic 66794 became one of two Class 66s in the GB Railfreight fleet to be painted in trainload freight triple grey. It carried Construction sector markings, like 66793, during its naming in May 2021, but these were changed to Petroleum sector markings on entry to traffic giving it a unique appearance.

Key Publishing's limited edition is the second 'Euro' specification Class 66 to be offered by Accurascale for 'OO' gauge and provides a perfect partner to the Accurascale Exclusive model of 66793 announced in late August.
