GBRf Class 08 08632

GBRf's Peterborough Yard shunter, Class 08 08632, is coming to the GB Railfreight Weekend on September 7/8 2024 and will be hauling passenger shuttles on the Fletton Branch from Orton Mere throughout the Nene Valley Railway based event.

GBRf Class 08 08632 in Peterborough Yard.

The English Electric 350hp Class 08 was built at Derby Works in 1959 as D3799 and is the oldest locomotive taking part in the GB Railfreight Weekend. Its early career was spent allocated to Stoke, Northampton and Crewe depots in the 1960s while in 1972 it moved to Tinsley and then Thornaby later the same year.

1974 saw D3799 gain its tops number, 08632. After a long period in BR ownership it became part of the EWS fleet in the late 1990s and later passed into DB Schenker control receiving both EWS maroon and gold and DBS red and grey liveries. In 2017 it became part of the Railway Support Services (RSS) fleet and was fully overhauled which saw it receive the new colours of its owner.

Initially it was based at Eastleigh yard and in 2023 marked a return to Peterborough yard for the Class 08 when it arrived to work for GB Railfreight. However, since its arrival it has not been seen outside Peterborough Yard making the GB Railfreight Weekend a rare opportunity to travel behind the 0-6-0 shunter.
