GREAT DAYS OUT SUMMER 2024

Railway enthusiasts are spoiled for choice for days out this summer. MARK CHIVERS rounds up some of the highlights of the heritage and model railway calendar.

If you are considering a railway-themed trip this summer, there are many options for a great day out with family and friends. From model railway exhibitions to heritage rail days, there’s something at one of the country’s many events and attractions to keep you entertained no matter what the weather has in store.

Heritage railways are a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in nostalgia as the organisations relive the spirit of a bygone era – and they can also act as a useful opportunity to do a bit of essential layout research at the same time.

Occasionally, there’s also an opportunity to combine a visit to a non-rail related venue. One which immediately springs to mind is Chester Cathedral which once again plays host to Pete Waterman OBE and the Railnuts with Making Tracks 4, the latest iteration of the ‘OO’ gauge West Coast Main Line layout.
