Heljan reveals new 'O' gauge Class 31 and 37/0 liveries

Heljan has revealed a new run of refurbished Class 31s and centre headcode Class 37/0s for ‘O’ gauge.

Announced at the Gauge ‘O’ Guild’s Guildex Show, these new releases are anticipated for release in 2025.

Refurbished Class 31s are set to appear as an unnumbered Class 31/1 in Railfreight large logo grey and yellow (Cat No: 3124), Class 31/1 31217 in coal sector grey, Class 31/4 31427 in BR blue (3146) and Class 31/5 in departmental 'Dutch' yellow and grey (3147). Additionally - as an exclusive to Tower Models - 31327 Phillips-Imperial in Thornaby Depot’s take of Railfreight red stripe is to be produced (3127).

Bearing the hallmarks of previous releases, Heljan's Class 31 will feature twin motors and flywheels, powered roof fan, directional head and tail lights, cab interior illumination and sprung screw-link couplings. While there is no factory provision for Digital Command Control (DCC), internal wiring is coloured to make conversion straightforward.

Delivery of the Class 31 is anticipated during the third quarter of 2025, with prices set at £499.

Class 37/0s follow on from the release earlier this year of the split headcode variant, with colour schemes and identities now confirmed. Models are set to appear in unnumbered form in BR blue (3730), BR large logo blue (3731), BR grey (3734), Network Rail yellow (3738) and Railfreight sector grey - which is also unbranded. Additionally, an unnumbered Class 37 in 'Dutch' Transrail livery (3739) is set to be produced as a Tower Models exclusive.

Some examples will also be produced with numbers already printed, these are set to appear as 37196 Tre Pol and Pen in Railfreight large logo grey (3732), 37152 in InterCity ‘Swallow’ (3725) and 37248 Loch Arkaig in West Coast Railways maroon (3737).

Specification includes a twin motors, flywheels, XL DCC decoder socket, cab lights, head and tail lights, powered roof fan, sprung buffers and screw-link coupling. Detail variations include National Radio Network antenna, cast or fabricated bogies, steam heating equipment and more.

Models are priced at £669 each, with delivery anticipated in late 2025.
