Kernow Model Rail Centre has commissioned a brand new and exclusive range of CDA china clay hoppers in ‘O’ gauge from Dapol.
With a clear relationship to the HAA merry-go-round coal hopper wagons, British Rail introduced a new fleet of more than 120 CDA hoppers for use on china clay traffic in the South West. They were built at Doncaster and featured a distinctive flexible roof covering and new operating mechanism. While china clay traffic levels have reduced today, a fleet of CDAs is still used by DB Cargo for operations in Cornwall.
These new models feature an accurate body and chassis, sprung metal buffers, metal screw link couplings and with finely profiled wheels in brass pockets.
14 different models form the initial releases encompassing the entire working life of the CDA’s including 375029, 375031, 375080 in English China Clays (ECC) branded blue and silver (Cat Nos. 7F-048 KER1-3) 375030, 375022, 375062 and 375015 in unbranded blue (7F-048-KER4-7) 375037, 375088 in EWS branded maroon (7F-048-KER8/9), 375008, 375085, 375082 in unbranded maroon (7F-048-KER10-12) and 375009 and 375003 in DB branded maroon (7F-048-KER13/14).
