Mark I’s recent 1/72 decal sheet is useful for modellers planning builds of 1/72 Eurofighter Typhoons.
If you’ve resolved to build one or more examples of the RAF Eurofighter Typhoon in 1/72 scale, slightly more exotic options are available via Mark I’s decal sheet. Item DMF7204 provides markings for eight Typhoon FGR.4 Tranche 1s that have served with the RAF’s 1435 Flight at Mount Pleasant, in defence of the Falkland Islands.
Maltese tribute
The paint scheme is the same as worn on other RAF Typhoons – BS381C/626 Camouflage Grey (formerly known as Barley Grey) – but you receive two styles of 1435 Flight insignia, plus tail-code letters in either dark grey or red. The codes – F, H, C, D – are in homage to the Gloster Gladiators stationed on Malta during World War Two, known as Faith, Hope and Charity. The ‘D’ code was instigated when Phantoms guarded the Falklands’ airspace, the reserve airframe being D for Desperation. If you’re wondering about the Maltese link, 1435 Flight flew from Malta during World War Two, operating night-fighter Hawker Hurricanes… hence the unit badge incorporating a Maltese Cross.
Serials given for the Typhoons are as follows: ZJ915, ZJ926, ZJ933, ZJ941, ZJ944, ZJ949, ZJ950 and ZK301. The Falkland Islands crest is also provided, being worn by four airframes. The sheet costs £6.20 and is available in the UK via Hannants. Note that Mark I also offers a 1/72 decal sheet for 1435 Flight Tornado F.3s (DMF7201).
