Maryborough - Australian railway modelling

The Australian Model Railway Association Victorian Branch led by ROGER LLOYD turn the clock back to the late 1950s in their home country to create a stunning replica of railway operations at Maryborough, Victoria. Photography, Jonathan Newton.

Roger Lloyd originally lived in Sydney and moved to Melbourne in early 1973. Shortly after, he took a day trip to Maryborough. While he was first drawn to the station building, he glanced around at the then existing yard and thought it would make a great candidate for a future exhibition layout as the yard is quite short with most of the tracks opposite the station building, unlike at many other locations where the yard and station are a fair distance apart.

In the 1980s he visited the Association of Rail Enthusiasts (ARE) when it was located in the Melbourne Central Business District and he was able to purchase plans of Maryborough’s station building. He put these plans away until the early 2000s when he made a proposal to the AMRA Victorian Branch to build a new exhibition layout of Maryborough.
