PLATZ 1/72 F-15J EAGLE IN FLIGHT

The F-15 has experienced something of a revival in 1/72 scale in recent years. Before the release of the Platz kit (employed here) in 2016, the Hasegawa moulds reigned supreme. Now, though, with Great Wall Hobby and Fine Molds having released MSIP II and standard J kits, respectively, in late 2023 – and Revell offering an all-new F-15E the previous year – the competition is stiff.

This is by no means a comparison build (having tackled both Revell and Hasegawa Eagles previously). However, with such great options to build an F-15 it seems only fair to want to display them in a unique way, instead of the usual ‘parked’ configuration. The most obvious answer would be to pose it on a stand, either with gear down as if landing or with gear-up. Conventional plastic stands such as those offered by Airfix or Revell are generally a good starting point for such a presentation. They are easy to assemble and fit, but are far better suited to the ‘landing’ display as they lack the flexibility to impart energy and dynamism to the finished model.
