SERIES 4: Flying Scotsman Centenary

2023 marks 100 years since the world's most famous steam locomotive - Gresley 'A3' 4-6-2 4472 Flying Scotsman - was completed at Doncaster Work in 1923. The London North Eastern Railway 'Pacific' entered traffic in February 1923 and was withdrawn in January 1963. It then entered preservation when it was purchased from British Railways by Alan Peglar. It has since been owned by Sir William McAlpine, Pete Waterman OBE, Tony Marchington and, since 2004, by the National Railway Museum. It has been restored to full working order by the National Railway Museum and will be seen across the country in 2023 to celebrate its 100th anniversary sponsored by Hornby Hobbies. Read our full collection of Flying Scotsman news, reviews and features here and keep up to date with the latest information for its centenary year appearance.
