Welcome to Airfix Model World (AMW). We hope you will be pleasantly surprised by the contents, not just in terms of actual builds, but also the high-quality photography (all by contributors) and explanatory text. Both have been trademarks of this magazine since its inception, with the former crucial to creating an easily understandable article – after all, model-making is a visual hobby, so we have always strived to show readers just how the end result is achieved.
Airfix Model World Magazine Features
While we feature Airfix products in every issue, we also cover those from other major manufacturers, such as Eduard, Hasegawa, Revell, Special Hobby, IBG Models, Italeri, Tamiya and Kinetic, as well as those from limited-run and ‘cottage industry’ firms. It means we cover every genre of the hobby, from figures and aircraft to armour, maritime and sci-fi/real space, with the aim of providing the broadest selection of content.
Furthermore, AMW has strived to include informative history/background articles with certain build features, often providing a different take on an otherwise familiar topic. These are written by renowned historians or people involved intimately with a subject. If you are seeking something more in-depth, then we occasionally publish special supplements, dedicated sections or bookazines, which focus on either a theme or a newly-tooled kit, along with valuable reference material on the real subject where feasible. No other monthly scale modelling magazine offers this much variety and quality.

THIS LITTLE PIGGY...
Designed for Tamiya’s 1/48 German Motorcycle and Sidecar (32578), ToRo Model’s figures provide an unusual load for the BMW R75, in the form of an armed rider and bound pig.
BOMBS AND FLAMETHROWER
Here’s another great modelling/wargaming cross-over from Zvezda in the form of a four-man, body armour-clad Soviet sapper team, comprising one soldier armed with a flamethrower, two wielding PPS-43 sub-machine guns (including one about to throw a grenade), while the final trooper carries a Degtyaryov machine gun.
MONSTROUS ’TACHE
The last of four ToRo figures inspired by the satirical cartoons of wartime artist WJP Jones, Dark Whiskers portrays a captain from the Coldstream Guards in North Africa, complete with an oversized moustache and ‘swatting’ stick.
LONGSTANDING GUNNERY
Having catered for a 1/35 World War One-era MG 08 firing team, ICM has substituted the figures and equipment for World War Two soldiers in this diorama-friendly package.
TAKE COVER!
When it comes to figures, few companies have adopted the approach taken by ICM, which shuns generic poses and ‘the usual’ subjects, and this is particularly true for its World War One Belgian Infantry set.
FIRE GOD'S CHARIOT
Academy's re-issue of its fearsome 1/35 M163 Vulcan Air Defense System is built as a NATO warrior by Huw Morgan.
TO THE RESCUE!
ICM has continued to expand its range of 1/35 Model T variants with a 1914 Fire Truck – as with the other releases in this series it’s effectively a down-scaling of the larger 1/24 offering.

Here’s another attractive addition to Airfix’s range of Quickbuild offerings, in the form of an orange-finished Ford Mustang GT.
SPECIAL HAULER
Italeri’s Turbostar Special is a mix of old and new – most parts date back to one of the type’s earliest offerings (kit 796 from 1991) as the Turbostar, but the original seven styrene runners are augmented by a new frame with parts for the 190.48 version.
