Welcome to Airfix Model World (AMW). We hope you will be pleasantly surprised by the contents, not just in terms of actual builds, but also the high-quality photography (all by contributors) and explanatory text. Both have been trademarks of this magazine since its inception, with the former crucial to creating an easily understandable article – after all, model-making is a visual hobby, so we have always strived to show readers just how the end result is achieved.
Airfix Model World Magazine Features
While we feature Airfix products in every issue, we also cover those from other major manufacturers, such as Eduard, Hasegawa, Revell, Special Hobby, IBG Models, Italeri, Tamiya and Kinetic, as well as those from limited-run and ‘cottage industry’ firms. It means we cover every genre of the hobby, from figures and aircraft to armour, maritime and sci-fi/real space, with the aim of providing the broadest selection of content.
Furthermore, AMW has strived to include informative history/background articles with certain build features, often providing a different take on an otherwise familiar topic. These are written by renowned historians or people involved intimately with a subject. If you are seeking something more in-depth, then we occasionally publish special supplements, dedicated sections or bookazines, which focus on either a theme or a newly-tooled kit, along with valuable reference material on the real subject where feasible. No other monthly scale modelling magazine offers this much variety and quality.

ON THE PULL
Suitable for most 1960s Royal Navy flight deck scenes, this Tugmaster tractor would make an ideal addition to any carrier diorama, but its complexity and detail make it equally suitable as a standalone model.
ARMOURED STARTER
Airfix has combined the two ‘basic’ runners from its newly tooled Sherman Firefly kit with three Humbrol acrylic paints, a tube of Poly Cement and a paint brush, to make a great Starter Set.

Modern Russian armour subjects are increasingly popular with modellers, so its encouraging to see types such as the 2S35 Koalitsiya (coalition) self-propelled howitzer in 1/72 scale – courtesy of this new tooling from Zvezda.

Few aircraft were as beautiful as de Havilland's DH.88 racer. Here, Andy Davies replicates individual airframe G-ACSR - the so-called 'Green-un' - via SBS Model's 1/72 kit.
WEIGHTY SCOUT
Considering the complexity and vast parts counts in some of its large-scale armour kits, Dragon’s small-scale offerings can appear refreshingly simple, as with its 1/72 Schwerer Panzerspähwagen 8-Rad (heavy armoured reconnaissance vehicle, 8-wheeled).
BELLOWING COW
Zvezda’s rocket firing Sd.Kfz.251 variant – nicknamed Heulende Kuh (bellowing cow) by German troops after the sound it made when the missiles were fired – is a recent tooling, distinct from its other Hanomags in this scale.
FIGHTING CRICKET
Having acquired several moulds from now-defunct firm Toxso, Revell has issued the former’s newly tooled (but never-released) 1/72 Sturmpanzer 38(t) Grille (cricket) Ausf.M.
MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE
Combining the recent 1/35 Sd.Kfz. 247 Ausf.B (35110) with its 2019-tooled German Command Vehicle Crew (35644) has allowed ICM to depict the type operating in its intended purpose as a portable operations centre.
