EXCLUSIVE BUILD
David Holmes completes a test-shot of Airfix’s 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 Starter Set kit.... and finds much to like.
Messerschmitt’s Bf 109 was developed constantly during World War Two, and there were several variants that coincided with improvements to the type’s Daimler Benz DB 601 in-line powerplant. The Bf 109F or ‘Friedrich’ was one of the most advanced fighters when it entered service in late 1940/early 1941 (and was superior to RAF Spitfires at that time). It had an all-metal monocoque construction, retractable landing gear and a liquid-cooled, inverted-V12 aero engine. Many would consider the Freidrich the most refined version of the Bf 109.
