Bachmann unveils new ‘N’ gauge D600 'Warships' and TPO POTs

Bachmann has revealed details of two all-new 'N' gauge models at the International 'N' Gauge Show in Warwickshire, with plans for newly-tooled D600 ‘Warship’ A1A-A1A diesels and BR Mk 1 Travelling Post Office Tender stowage vans.

Just five of the D600 ‘Warship’ class were built by the North British Locomotive Company for the Western Region of British Railways: it having chosen to adopt diesel hydraulic traction over diesel electric. They were not a success in traffic and all were withdrawn in 1967.

Set to appear within Bachmann's EFE Rail range, tooling for the all-new 'N' gauge 'Warships' is set to be comprehensive, with early and later styles of body catered for,  with disc headcodes or headcode boxes and modified side grilles. Each will also feature separately fitted metal handrails, buffer beam pipework and headcode discs.

Models will feature a coreless motor powering the outer axles on both bogies, with all driven wheels also having pickups. Additionally directional and cab lights will also be fitted with switches on the PCB allowing for control on analogue layout, while the 'Warships' will also sport a Next 18 Digital Command Control (DCC) socket and include provision for a speaker in the battery box.

Bachmann has also revealed details of its all-new 'N' gauge BR Mk 1 Post Office Tender (POT) stowage vans. These were built as a dedicated fleet of Royal Mail postal vehicles by British Rail with Post Office sorting vans and Post Office tenders developed.

Bachmann has chosen to model the Diagram 732 POTs, with ten built to this design in 1968 at York. Bachmann's new Graham Farish models are set to feature a wealth of moulded detail, reflecting the corridor, roof, ventilator and door handles along with a separately fitted grab handrail. Each coach will ride on B5 bogies with metal wheel sets. Underframe equipment will be separately-fitted, including battery boxes and braking equipment.
