A new system from Cavalex Models promises to make fitment of buffer beam detail easier.

This latest development from the manufacturer is called ‘Adaptive. Magnetic. Detail.’ (AMD) and it is set to debut on the company’s forthcoming ‘OO’ gauge Class 60 Co-Co diesel.

AMD is an innovative magnetic bufferbeam which snaps into place at each end of a locomotive, enabling these to be swapped between fully detailed or partially detailed examples. This is particularly useful should you wish to switch between hauling trains from end one of a locomotive, to parking it on a diesel depot diorama, for example.  The bufferbeams can simply be removed from underneath the model with no tools required.

Two styles of magnetic bufferbeam will be included with each locomotive – a fully detailed version with pipework and snowplough and a partially-detailed ‘beam with cut-out for the NEM coupling pocket. Two of each will be supplied.

Although launching with the Class 60, Cavalex says it hopes to to introduce the feature to future models.
