Designed by William Adams, 20 locomotives were built by the LSWR in the early 1890s and remained in service following Grouping, with the final three locomotives remaining until 1936, 1942 and 1945 respectively. They were originally intended for use on lines west of Salisbury. One locomotive was preserved (No. 563) as part of the National Collection and is currently in operation on the Swanage Railway in Dorset.

Revealed during Bachmann’s Collectors Club members’ day at the Swanage Railway in September, the all-new 'OO' gauge model has been developed in conjunction with Kernow Model Rail Centre and with help from the South Western Circle. EFE Rail’s ‘LSWR ‘T3’ 4-4-0 will feature a die-cast metal boiler and chassis, five-pole motor, flywheel, all-wheel pick-ups, close locomotive-to-tender connection, metal valve gear, sprung front bogie, sprung metal buffers and separately-applied handrails and detailing.

EFE Rail’s tooling suite will enable original Adams and later Drummond boiler examples to be produced together with chimney options and/or smokebox doors. Further tooling options include single or double whistles,  optional side chains on front and rear bufferbeams, plain or fluted coupling rods and more.
