The kit has been designed by PJM Models and assembles from a suite of laser-cut MDF and plywood parts to replicate the London & Birmingham Railway (LBR) structure.

The tunnel portal was built in 1837 and marks the entrance to the one-mile 55yard tunnel through the Hertfordshire landscape. It was designed by Robert Stephenson and built under contract. The interior is lined with red brick while the portals feature high grade stonework with a decorative gable at the top.

It gained Grade II listed status in 1983 and continues to serve West Coast Main Line trains on a daily basis, taking the Fast lines through the landscape. A second tunnel stands to the east of the original which houses the Slow lines.

The kit is designed to ‘OO’ gauge and is 373mm wide (including the brick wing walls), 170mm tall at the top of the gable and 85mm deep. The opening is designed for double track on the straight and measures 106mm across at the base and 98mm from the trackbed to the keystone.
