Starling Models has released a pre-war Grimsby-class sloop, HMS Deptford – Stu Fone takes a close look at this superb kit.
Starling Models' latest 1/350 kit release, HMS Deptford may be from the same Grimsby-class of vessels as the firm’s previous HMAS Yarra, but the parts have been reworked to represent an earlier ship.
Inside the sturdy box (STK09), there’s a superbly cast one-piece full hull, featuring deck planking and locating points for all deck and superstructure fittings, 11 x 3D-printing plinths, two photo-etched (PE) brass frets, turned brass masts and a pack of Uschi van der Rosten thread (for rigging). Based on the colour scheme, lack of hull number and armament configuration, the kit depicts Deptford in its pre-war configuration as an East Indies Station asset, with an off-white hull and dark grey superstructure.
