TWO BOBS’ NEW 1/48 F-16C CAJUN AGGRESSOR DECALS

US decal specialist Two Bobs has released a superb 1/48 markings set for Nellis-based 706th Aggressor Squadron F-16Cs.

TWO BOBS’ NEW 1/48 F-16C CAJUN AGGRESSOR DECALS

Two Bobs has impressive form in providing interesting liveries for the F-16 ‘Viper’. It continues its coverage of the venerable type with a new set, 48-284 Nellis Cajun Aggressors. The decals are for two Block 30B F-16Cs from the reservist 706th Aggressor Squadron, based at Nellis, Nevada, since 2007; the unit was previously the 706th Fighter Squadron, which experienced various ‘nameplate’ and type changes beforehand, having previously flown the A-10, A-37, transports and bombers.

Here, the two F-16C airframes look completely different. Arguably, the real star is the ‘Wing King’ jet 85-1501, which sports a three-colour splinter scheme on top, plus a classy vertical tail adorned with a large fleur-de-lys and 926th Wing legends. The fleur-de-lys reflects the unit’s tenure at New Orleans, Louisiana… hence the squadron’s ‘Cajuns’ moniker. The other example, 86-0222/LV, is a more sombre affair wearing overall dark grey Have Glass V Radar Cross Section reduction paint (save for a lighter radome) and black codes/serials.

Useful reference

Two Bobs’ usual fastidious research is evident, whereby the instructions provide excellent colour profile and upper/lower plan illustrations, a stores diagram and cross-reference charts for Federal Standard, AK Interactive, Hataka, Mr Color and Mr Paint shades. Also supplied are markings for different AN/ALQ-167 ‘Angry Kitten’ electronic countermeasures pods named The Don, Square O, DANA, TAX and FLAPZ. This store is available from Wolfpack, Phase Hangar Resin, and AvantGarde Model Kits in its US Ordnance Set 1. Note that a small, separate decal sheet carries unit badges and extra aerial refuelling port markings. Two Bobs’ new set is ideal for Tamiya and Kinetic 1/48 F-16s, but select Hasegawa boxings are also relevant, possibly with slight modification (Block 30Bs feature the F110 engine but small air intake).

Most F-16 fans should love this offering, especially due to the airframe with the smartly decorated tail. The retail price is $16 direct from Two Bobs, but it will also be available in the UK from Hannants.
