Hannants’ own-brand Xtradecal has issued new markings for Airfix’s 1/72 Beagle Basset, reissued in the firm’s Vintage Classics range.

NEW BASSET SCHEMES FROM XTRADECAL

Whether you have an earlier boxing of Airfix's 1/72 Beagle Basset or you’re considering buying the recent Vintage Classics reissue, Xtradecal’s new bespoke decal set is certainly worth considering. It caters for six individual airframes (one of these has alternative liveries), four of which wear white over grey paint, with cheatlines splitting the two shades. But more colour is ensured by three other airframes, which bring blue and red tones into the mix. Even an overseas example is included. The options, all CC.1 variants, are:

•    XS743, Empire Test Pilots’ School, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, UK, 1989

•    XS743, Empire Test Pilots’ School, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, UK, 2007

•    XS769, RAF Transport Command, RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, UK, 1966

•    XS770, Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, UK, 1980s

•    XS768, 60 Squadron RAF, 1970

•    YK-AMA, Syrian Air Force, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, UK, 2007

•    XS784, 207 Squadron RAF, Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, 1969

The decals are of superb quality, with properly thin, gloss carrier film, and cheatlines are supplied for every option, negating fiddly masking. And with Airfix’s Basset being such a wallet-friendly item, it’s easier to employ more of the choices on this decal sheet. The ETPS and A&AEE airframes are particularly attractive, too. This sheet, X72342, is also good value at just £8.99 and it’s available direct from parent company Hannants.
